Seal Scuba Dive (ProDive)

Plettenberg Bay

Activity Description

THIS IS BOUND TO BE ONE OF YOUR MOST EXCITING INTERACTIONS WITH MARINE ANIMALS EVER!

Seals, so ungainly on land, are transformed into the most graceful creatures once they enter the water. Their large, intelligent eyes follow the divers as they swim playfully amongst them, blowing bubbles & moving in for a closer look – this is a once in a lifetime diving encounter!

The Seal Colony is found on the Robberg Peninsula & is only a 10-minute boat ride from the dive centre. It is a shallow dive (4-6m) & is suitable for all divers.

Not qualified? Join us for a PADI Discover Scuba Diving course, which includes a lecture, pool session & seal dive (only takes one day)!

Is it Safe?
The seals are friendly & inquisitive, however as with any animal – if provoked or harassed, they would be capable of causing harm.

You will be met on arrival by our experienced seal guide who will sign you in & assist with fitting your snorkel & scuba gear (changing rooms & lockers are available on site). Once everyone has geared up, the group will take a short stroll on the beach to the boat where you be given a briefing by the skipper & seal guide on boat procedures & the seal scuba experience, before embarking on a short boat ride to Robberg Nature Reserve. You will then get to jump into the water with your guide for an exhilarating 30 minute scuba dive with the seals. On arrival back at Pro Dive our facilities include changing rooms & shower facilities where can freshen up after your once in a life time marine animal encounter.

RABIES UPDATE:
We want to keep you informed about the recent rabies cases identified in seals. Our team is actively monitoring the situation in coordination with the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, as well as Cape Nature who manage Robberg Nature Reserve. While the cases have been isolated, we’ve introduced additional safety measures to protect everyone.
To help manage the risk, we’ve implemented extra precautions by working together with the other operators & have experienced marine spotters keeping an eye out for any unusual seal behaviour.
During excursions, our guides carry first aid kits specifically for bite injuries and are always close by while you’re in the water, ready to assist immediately. The boat stays close to the group to pick up divers swiftly, if required. We have a 30 year impeccable safety record and our crew are always ready to react in any situation.
Our local trauma doctor is fully equipped to handle seal bite incidents and we have ensured that vaccines are readily available.
If you’re feeling unsure, you’re welcome to switch to a viewing trip instead—it’s just as fun and a great way to enjoy the experience from a different perspective. Whatever you choose, we’re here to make sure your adventure is both safe, enjoyable & memorable!
